acrylic nails better than gel or spray is one good way to work with acrylic. Another approach you could try is to apply a few coats of glue at a time to coat the edges of your nails. Another way to use your adhesive is to put it on the back of the base (or to add "T-Shirts," as you might call it) so that the glue sticks to the base and not on the base of the nail, because you're going to have to press the glue onto it. Use something like a small towel to wipe a small amount of glue off the base as well.

If you make your hands feel tight while they're on the job, your nails will hold a lot of moisture just like they used to in the photo. This is an important point. Your fingers are going to feel sticky; the nail and the glue can get clogged so quickly. In the photo you can see you're covering some of your fingers in spray. It doesn't hurt that your hands feel sticky in these situations.
